2009 nvkpc 29th ANNUAL SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT

RULES & REGULATIONS

 

Decision on the conduct of the tournament will be made by Northern Virginia Korean Presbyterian Church (NVKPC).  These decisions are final.  NVKPC is not responsible for any lost, late, misdirected illegible entries.  By participating in this tournament, all teams must agree to be bound by the official rules and the decisions of the umpires and NVKPC officials.  The official rules below include rules from the softball playing rules of the Amateur Softball Association of America and rules added and modified by NVKPC.

 

1.     Five innings for all games and seven innings for the championship game.

 

2.     The game must end if there is a run difference of fifteen points after the third inning (after the fourth inning for the championship game).

 

3.     Each team’s roster must be submitted by July 3rd, the day of the captains’ meeting.  Any changes made thereafter will not be permitted.

 

4.     Leadoffs are not permitted by the base runners.

 

5.     A runner is out if hit by the ball before a defensive play.

 

6.     The batter can advance only one base when the ball is thrown over the fence during a defensive play.  If the ball does not go over the fence, it is still in play.  The final judgment of whether a player automatically advances or not will be made by the umpire.

 

7.     A fast pitch (in the judgment of umpire) is an automatic ball.  Pitches must be 6 to 12 feet high.  Illegal pitches are determined by the umpire’s discretion. 

 

8.     The infield fly rule is in effect: if there is a runner on first base and second, and there is less than two outs, then all infield fly balls are automatic out.

 

9.     One and one rule is in effect: each batter starts with one ball and one strike and a courtesy foul.  The batter is out after a foul ball with two strikes.

 

10.  The batter is out if the bat hits the catcher or the fence.

 

11.  A player who is not on the team’s roster will result in a forfeit of the game.

 

12.  The umpire is free to eject a player and or spectator for bad sportsmanship (cursing, aggressive behavior, etc).

 

13.  All substitutions must be reported to the umpire. 

 

14.  The batter must play defense (a whole inning) prior to batting except at the top of the first inning except the DH

 

15.  Shoes with metal spikes are not permitted.

 

16.  The batter is out if an error in the batting order is made.

 

17.  For the safety of players and spectators, the host church will be providing bats for the each field for the players usage.

 

18.  Each team must have one designated score keeper.  It’s recommended that score keepers compare records at the end of each inning.  In the case of a discrepancy, the team captains must resolve the dispute with each other and the umpire.  The umpire will make the final decision, and only one score sheet needed to be turned in after each games. 

 

19.   Each team is responsible for providing its own drinks and food.

 

20.   NVKPC and its representatives are not liable for any injuries and loss or damage to personal property.

 

21.  One designater batter is allowed during the game,  The DH cannot be substituted for a defensive position at any time during the game. (DH is optional not mandatory)
